There are more than 1600 labradors in the city, and another 1300 labrador cross dogs.
The next most popular breeds are staffordshire terrier cross, jack russell terrier, golden retriever, german shepherd and poodle.
The Auckland City Council has released the statistics to remind dog owners they have until Friday [31 July 2009] to register their dogs at the early rate and to enter a draw for one of five $200 Westfield vouchers.
